Mac Waters grew up in St Blazey Gate, Cornwall. He was married at the age of 16 and had already been promoted within the Merchant Navy from a cabin boy to the ship cook. By the age of 21, he had sailed around the world. "You can read all the books, you can see it on the telly, people can tell you about it, but there's no substitute for going and meeting the people, smelling the smells and seeing the sights." He later worked for English China Clay at Parkandillick for 34 years, in an area now nicknamed 'The Cornish Alps' owing to the many spoil heaps dominating the surrounding landscape. Mac was made a Cornish bard in 1994 for his commitment to Cornish culture and history, collecting over 6,000 images and postcards of Cornwall from the past 150 years. His bardic name translates as 'Gatherer of Fragments'

Kingsley Rickard was born and bred in Callington, East Cornwall. He is a local historian and lectures in Industrial History. Growing up, most of his friends became miners but Kingsley chose not too stating, "I prefer the daylight". Despite this, he maintained a keen interest in mining, and in 2003 he was awarded as a bard of the Cornish Gorsedh for services to Cornish Industrial History. Kingsley is a Director of the King Edward Mine Museum site, in Troon, Camborne, which is maintained by a small group of volunteers with an interest in Cornwall's mining heritage

Leon Pezzack's family have lived in Mousehole for generations, dating back to pre-1700s. The son of a carpenter and grandson of a fisherman, Leon is a renowned Cornishman, rowing club champion, oar-maker and historian. He designed Nournour, the first gig built on the Isles of Scilly in a century. After being made redundant from his job as BT telephone engineer, Leon mastered the art of oar-making. In 1996, Leon and his wife, Sylvia, founded the biennial Sea Salts & Sail festival in Mousehole, with the aim of preserving the village's identity as a traditional fishing village. In 2015, Leon was made a Cornish Bard for his dedication to maritime history

Tony Bunt, was born and raised in Camborne and has lived there for most of his life. After attending university in London, Tony returned to Cornwall, where he worked at South Crofty tin and copper mine for several months, before moving on to a mining job in Canada for 7 months. This was followed by a brief 1-year stint working at Pendarves mine, Camborne, taking core samples from the mine's working face, until its closure in the 1980s. Each of his jobs were short-lived due to the decline in the minerals industry in Cornwall. Now retired, Tony volunteers at the King Edward Mine Museum doing clearance work across the site's 22 acres

Mrs. Martin from Falmouth, dressed in her Cornish tartan hat and scarf celebrating Helston Flora Day 2016. The attire of Cornish kilts and tartan are one of Cornwall's relatively modern traditions. The Cornish National tartan was designed by E. E Morton Nance in 1963 using colours traditionally associated with Cornwall, with each colour holding special significance. The black and white is for Saint Piran, and also forms the Cornish flag, black and gold were the colours for the ancient Kings of Dumnonia, the red symbolises the beak and legs of the national bird, the Cornish chough and the blue represents the sea surrounding Cornwall

Steve Coad joined Lanner and District Silver band 4 years ago, after previously playing the Euphonium in the Army band. His wife, Karen, is also a member of the band. Lanner and District Silver Band was formed in the small mining village of Lanner, on the outskirts of Redruth in the mid 1890s, however it disbanded a few years later following mass emigration from the mining district. It was later reformed in 1965, and in the early days the band practiced inside a local Lanner resident's chicken shed, until the band grew in numbers

Mike Hall is reaching his third year playing the bass trombone in Lanner and District Silver Band. The majority of Cornwall's silver and brass bands were formed at the end of the 19th century, when external influences from around the world began to reach Cornwall, after the emigration of thousands of Cornishmen in search of more prosperous work abroad. Sadly, despite being deeply rooted in Cornish culture, Cornwall's silver and brass bands are dying out, and over 100 have already disappeared

Hugh Rowe of Pool, Cornwall. Generations of Hugh's family worked the Cornish mines and many migrated to America with hope of better prospects after the decline of the mining industry in Cornwall. By marriage, he is related to Richard Trevithick, the famous Cornish mining engineer who invented the world's first steam railway locomotive. Hugh trained as an apprentice for Holman Brothers Ltd., Cornwall's largest manufacturer of mining machinery. Due to a motorcycling accident, this took him 6 years to complete and he was titled the "best trained apprentice they had ever had." He continued working as an engineer for Holmans for 14 years

Ruth Webb was ten years old when she first stood on Cornish ground with her Cornish-native mother. Downhearted about being born on English turf, when she first came to Cornwall as a child Ruth felt an overwhelming sense of being home. As soon as she turned 18 she moved out of the family home and down to St.Austell, Cornwall, where she has lived ever since. As a woman of many interests, Ruth built herself a reputation as a prolific wood carver of Green Men. She ran a bird sanctuary from her home for many years, rehabilitating sick birds and releasing them back into the wild when possible. She also taught synchronised swimming in St.Austell for 10 years, after the children's parents were instated to keep the club alive. In 2015, Ruth was made a Cornish Bard for her commitment to Cornish language, having completed the fourth grade in Cornish and continuing to teach the ancient language to others
